Hernia Repair

Hernias are weak spots of the abdominal wall. The most common location of them are in the groin, at the umbilicus (belly button) or at prior incisions from previous surgery. They are often times associated with some mild pain, tenderness and the presence of a "bulge".

Repair:

Depending on the location of your hernia the surgery is either performed as an outpatient procedure or it may require a short hospital stay. Hernias can be repaired either as an "open" or as a laparoscopic procedure. The type of repair is tailored to each patient and is based upon the location, the number of hernias (i.e. is a groin hernia present in both groins), the health of the patient and their expectations. These will all be discussed at the time of your initial visit along with postoperative instructions and recovery expectations.
