The thyroid is a small gland located in the neck that secretes a hormone that helps the body maintain itself. Often times it will develop "nodules" that can be felt or even seen. Sometimes these nodules can get large enough that they can compress other structures into the neck causing symptoms like difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing or voice changes.
