VNUS

VNUS is a procedure that uses high frequency radio waves to help treat varicose veins and spider veins.

Procedure:

This is an office based procedure. Under ultrasound guidance a small catheter is placed into the diseased vein and passed up toward the groin. Once it is confirmed to be in a good position local anesthetic is infused into the tissue around the vein. The device is then activated and the catheter is slowly withdrawn. The vein collapses and fuses closed. Once the catheter is completely withdrawn, the leg is wrapped tightly and compression stockings are worn. You should have someone drive you home. A repeat ultrasound is usually performed 2-3 days later to confirm adequate treatment.

Recovery:

There is minimal downtime associated with this procedure. You will be required to wear compression stocking for one week and avoid strenous activity for one week. Ambulation is strongly encouraged.
